Segal freelanced as a photographer for major magazines, and his work has appeared in magazines such as Dazed & Confused, Another Man, and The Edit. The work he did for those magazines helped him parlay his success into the advertising world. Rock & Republic, Adidas, Nina Ricci, and Louis Vuitton are a few of the companies that have worked with Segal in the past. As the owner of Mark Segal Photography, he has utilized indoor and outdoor elements to create his most famous works, capturing images of models in desert scenes wearing high-fashion clothing. He shoots in both black-and-white and color and often experiments with different angles and shooting methods to create eye-catching images. Segal launched Panoramic Images in 1987 to help photographers sell their work. The company sells image licenses to companies around the world. Just one year later, he created SkyPan International, which uses helicopters to obtain aerial shots. In 1990, Segal began teaching, and he continues to teach while working on his own photography. After launching SkyPan International, he began experimenting with still images by incorporating those images into video clips. Known for pushing the boundaries, he often creates touching and memorable images, such as Marching Band D.C., which shows a marching band in front of the reflecting pool. He was also responsible for creating advertising campaigns for Louis Vuitton Cruise 2012, Nina Ricci Madameoiselle Ricci Fragrance and Louis Vuitton Resort 2011.
